THE AMBLE CHALLENGE
This was a three-year scheme with measures to restructure the local economy with environmental and infrastructure improvements. The scheme consolidated the activities of the Round 1 scheme, which established the community-led partnership.

Scheme ended in March 1999.
RENAISSANCE OF BLYTH
Integrated five-year strategy, the key element of which is the establishment of a centre of excellence for offshore technology and sub-sea activities - EUROSEAS. It is complemented by measures to enhance the employment prospects and skills of local people. Northumberland TEC leads a partnership including British Gas, a major local employer, Harbour Commission and local authority. Key Outputs: 900 jobs created/safeguarded; 600 people trained obtaining qualifications; 40 new business start-ups; 10 hectares land improved/reclaimed for development.

Round 3 - 1997 /98
CONFIDENT IN PRUDHOE
A strong community led partnership, chaired by local headmaster, with direct involvement of Kimberley Clark, a key local employer, together with a wide range of partners including the TEC. Main features of this four-year scheme are optimising access of local residents to employment opportunities by improving learning and training, particularly key technology skills; enhancing training provision in local companies; and housing and environmental improvements. Key Outputs: 175 jobs created/safeguarded; 10,000 training weeks; 400 people trained obtaining qualifications; 11,000 given access to new sports opportunities/facilities; 220 local authority dwellings improved.

Round 4 - 1998 / 99
BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE, BLYTH VALLEY
This four-year scheme is aimed at disaffected youths in Blyth and offers a comprehensive range of initiatives targeted at those living in the most deprived communities on the periphery of the town centre. The bid focuses mainly on drug abuse with other initiatives designed to combat social exclusion, improve education, tackle youth crime and promote health awareness. Key Outputs: 78 jobs created/safeguarded; 254 people obtaining qualification; 1,030 pupils benefiting from projects to enhance attainment; 30 HA dwellings completed; 626m² new commercial floorspace.

WANSBECK NEIGHBOURHOOD RENEWAL: MARGINS TO MAINSTREAM
The three-year scheme will provide pathways to enable the most marginalised residents in Wansbeck's poorest neighbourhoods to raise their aspirations, access local training provision and participate in mainstream economic activity. Key Outputs: 1,000 jobs created/safeguarded; 265 residents accessing employment, 21,185m² of new commercial floorspace.

ACTION FOR COMMUNITIES (NORTHUMBERLAND)
A seven-year scheme developed by the Northumberland Strategic Partnership, which presents a co-ordinated package for enhancing employment prospects, educational attainment and skills of local people as well as addressing their health and social needs. Targets the Northumberland Coalfield, rural areas and areas suffering from recent factory closures. Key Outputs: 1141 Jobs Created / Safeguarded; 2559 people trained & Obtaining Qualifications; 1106 New Business Start-ups; 14960 Sq m of New/Improved Business/ Commercial Floorspace.
